PhD in History

The PhD in History is an opportunity for students to make an original contribution to advancing knowledge. It gives them a chance to demonstrate their thorough understanding of what it means to be a historian.

The Department of History also offers the choice of completing a joint dissertation, leading to a joint degree from 2 institutions. This option takes more effort than a traditional PhD, but leads to greater diversity and wider access to employment opportunities.

  • Fall and winter admission
  • Daytime classes
  • Full-time, part-time
  • 90 credits, 78 for the dissertation
