Students wishing to pursue their studies at the graduate level can choose from a large number of specializations and courses examining issues in all parts of the world and in all time periods, along with a number of thematic specializations:

The Department's graduate students and faculty conduct research in 3 main areas:

  • Identities, alterities and differences
  • Societies and cultures in the Atlantic world
  • Power, from local to international



Job outlook

Studies in history at the master's and PhD levels can lead to management positions in the private or public sector, in:

  • Museums
  • Cultural or tourism organizations
  • Diplomatic services and intelligence agencies
  • Media departments

Many business leaders say they appreciate the cultural background and analytical skills of advanced-level history graduates for positions involving policy planning and evaluation.
